Abdullah is a 37-year-old Iraqi believer, who grew up near the Syrian border. He lost his entire family in a horrific attack by ISIS terrorists. Abdullah’s wife and children, one as young as five years old, were all brutally murdered by these heartless barbarians. Abdullah shared his ordeal and path to safety recently with RUN Ministries president Eric Watt, who asked me to pass along this shocking letter to you:

Mat, I just received this letter from one of the people in our “Community of Hope” refugee camp. It is not easy to read … but it’s important that you and your Liberty Counsel Action friends know what is really happening in northern Iraq.—Eric

Dear Brother Eric,

I’m very happy to see myself alive today. I’m the only one who is alive from my big family. I never thought that one day my eyes will see such a huge disaster in my life and in my family’s life.

One day, I was in different village early in the morning when people came for me and said let’s go to your house, your family is not alive any more. When I got in my village, I saw people were crying, women were yelling. I went to my house and saw that my family was shot to death—all in their heads. I had no Idea what I would do.

I can’t explain what I saw. Before the jihadists killed people in my village, they did very bad things with our young girls and women. I did not know what to do, where to go, because it was difficult for me to forget all that I had seen.

One day, I decided to go to areas where the jihadists have camps because I wanted to die with my family. I was not afraid. I just wanted to die. When I arrived, they said go far from here. I said, “Kill me! You killed my family, now kill me!” They said, “You are crazy. Go! Go!!!”

I thought, It’s not working, I will commit suicide. So I went into the mountains to hang myself in a tree. Suddenly, your leaders came and saved me and have brought me to the “Community of Hope” refugee camp.

I met with hundreds of people in the camp, and their stories are more painful than mine. I asked God to give me a long life. I want to serve here in this camp. So today, I’m happy to serve my dear Jesus followers in this refugee camp.

I remember that God said in His Word that He is a God who heals us. Please pray God will heal us. Please pray for peace here. Every day our people are being killed; children are being orphaned; and families are losing their homes.

May God bless you all … Amen!

RUN Ministries volunteers are providing food, water, shelter, and protection to thousands of displaced Iraqi Christians, like Abdullah, and other religious minorities. They’re continuing this difficult, dangerous, and lifesaving work despite the imminent, deadly threat posed by ISIS terrorists!

More than 7,000 people, so far, have turned to RUN Ministries for help and protection. One “Community Of Hope” refugee camp is fully operational, but Eric’s team is working to build at least six more as quickly as possible to meet the overwhelming and constantly increasing need.
