A dangerous movement (Liberty Counsel)

The SPLC’s stated goal is to “destroy” groups with which it disagrees and to “cut off” those they deem to be “hate groups” from sources of income by pushing digital companies to deny so-called “hate groups” their services. Right now, Liberty Counsel is in the crosshairs of both prongs of the SPLC’s vicious attack campaign.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has announced a new Religious Liberty Task Force in the Department of Justice (DOJ) to protect and promote religious liberty as established in the October 2017 Religious Liberty Memorandum and the related Implementation Memorandum.

During his remarks, Sessions referenced, without using its name, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as a threat to religious liberty, suggesting the new task force may investigate that Left-wing activist group.

Sessions said, “A dangerous movement, undetected by many, is now challenging and eroding our great tradition of religious freedom.  It must be confronted and defeated… We have gotten to the point where courts have held that morality cannot be a basis for law; where ministers are fearful to affirm… Holy writ from the pulpit; and where one group can actively target religious groups by labeling them a ‘hate group’ on the basis of their sincerely held religious beliefs.” (Emphasis added).

One of the first actions the Religious Liberty Task Force should take is to demand that all federal agencies disavow association and reliance upon the SPLC.

The SPLC grossly misrepresents and labels Liberty Counsel and other pro-family and conservative organizations as so-called “hate groups.” The SPLC’s defamatory label encourages violence by falsely labeling peaceful, law-abiding citizens and organizations as haters and hate groups.

If these lies are allowed to stand, Liberty Counsel’s ability to effectively defend the rights of people of faith in our culture will be severely impacted. These attacks on our religious liberty put every Christian at more risk of hostile legal action from the anti-faith movement.

We cannot meet these dangerous threats to every American’s religious liberties without your help. Please help as I push back against the slanderous attacks of groups like the SPLC and GuideStar, who want to malign and destroy pro-faith and pro-family organizations.

+ + We are working to STOP this “dangerous movement”!

The SPLC has already recruited major digital companies like Facebook, Amazon, Google, and Twitter into blacklisting and/or policing the messaging of groups they’ve maligned as “Hate Groups.” The danger of tech titans joining with the radical SPLC is alarming. The SPLC and those who rely upon the false label must stop!

In June, Liberty Counsel joined a coalition of leaders and organizations in releasing an open letter to government agencies, news organizations, corporations and social media platforms to sever their ties with the SPLC and its ongoing effort to defame and slander mainstream conservative organizations.

The spread of the SPLC’s outrageous “Hate” designation on the Internet and other venues cannot be tolerated! Liberty Counsel’s litigation team remains deeply engaged in turning back the assaults against us that are being led by the SPLC’s legal team.

We must raise $15,000 this week to ramp up our fight against the SPLC’s attack and continue other important litigation.

P.S. The Department of Justice has acknowledged the danger to religious liberty by the SPLC’s “hate group” labeling. Whether or not they take the necessary action, I need your help to stand against the SPLC and the Silicon Valley bullies. Thank you in advance for your prayerful consideration!
