Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland is knocking on Senate doors, and more than a quarter of Republican senators, particularly the ones who are up for re-election in November, are answering.
Already, two GOP Senators have met with the Barack Obama’s choice for the High Court and at least 14 others are ready to take the meeting as well. Is this a sign that Republican resolve against the President’s SCOTUS nominee is weakening?
Fearing for their political careers, GOP Senators are feeling the pressure to cave. In fact, at least three have publicly stated that they support hearings for the Garland nomination — filling Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) with hope of more to come. “Inches will turn into feet, feet will turn into miles, and hopefully Judge Garland will turn into Justice Garland,” said the three-term Senator.
Congressional Republicans have a history of talking tough in public but surrendering the moment the pressure becomes intense. We have already reached that point, and I’m calling on every member of our LCA team to join with me to ensure history doesn’t repeat itself.
Thank you for taking immediate action on this critical, all-important issue!
God bless you,
