»”Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest” … Gal 6:9
|Just a few days ago, Mat and I celebrated the joyous holiday of Christmas. It was a wonderful and much-needed pause at the end of an extraordinarily busy year. Yet, right up to the moment we separated ourselves from the ministry’s intense activity to enjoy our family time, Liberty Counsel’s legal team was feverishly working on dozens of cases with widely diverse fact patterns.|
In addition to cases that go into litigation, every month we field many calls from people who desperately need our help. December 2014 was no different.
One request for help came from a teen in Mississippi whose girlfriend was being coerced to abort their unborn child. We sprang to their defense and as a result, the baby was saved and the couple is making plans to get married!
Although we cannot rescue helpless and deceived victims from every abortion clinic’s deadly trade, we can help save some babies while working
at a systemic level to restore legal protection for every preborn child.
In December, we also helped a ministry obtain a tax exemption that was initially denied. So, although we do not physically build churches or other ministry facilities, we clear away certain zoning, financial, and regulatory obstacles so that God’s work
In addition, we advised concerned citizens about drafting state legislation supporting religious free speech in public schools, worked with a 4-H Club to enable it to maintain the practice of student-led prayer, and advised several counties regarding historical displays of the Ten Commandments.
In the final month of 2014, we also worked on issues with nine separate Christian after-school clubs. In most cases, these “Good News Clubs” have been denied equal opportunities that are provided to secular clubs such as the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts. So although Liberty Counsel cannot teach the Gospel in every major city, we can help club leaders gain equal access to meet in appropriate venues. These clubs are essential in the effort to reach public school kids for Christ!
At Liberty Counsel, we are called to keep the doors open so the Gospel can reach every person on earth. Therefore, we work hard to leave a lasting legacy for subsequent generations. We create conditions in our society that enable our generation, and each following generation, to continue freely practicing faith in Jesus Christ.
There is a heavy cost associated with keeping the doors open for the proclamation of the Gospel. But it is well worth the price, both financially and in terms of the energy required to persist. That is why we fight every day to preserve religious freedom – the lives of people of all ages literally hang in the balance!
Of course, we cannot do this work alone. We rely on friends like you who want to extend their reach into our culture along with us. Not everyone can engage in the legal battles we face, but you, too, have a vital role in preserving religious freedom for others!
Regardless of the cost, as the New Year dawns we wholeheartedly renew our resolve to persistently advance the cause of Christ in 2015. We pray you will join us in this resolve.
Over the years, we have learned that if we show up, we usually defeat our adversaries. We pray you will join your hearts and hands with us to overcome the challenges Christians will surely face in the New Year. Working together, we can overcome and reap a priceless harvest from 2015’s opportunities!
