This is an extremely rare opportunity to make a long-term difference in the lives of persecuted Christians in the Middle East. Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE) has introduced a resolution calling for the United States and the international community to support the development of northern Iraq’s Nineveh Plain as a safe haven for Christians. The resolution states that the semi-autonomous area would be “consistent with lawful expressions of self-determination by its indigenous peoples.” The development and protection of this region, known as the cradle of Christianity, means that Christians and other religious minorities would return to their ancestral homeland.
As Patrick Goodenough reported at CNSNews:
Congress and the State Department have declared that ISIS attacks on Christians and other religious minorities are officially genocide. Now it’s time to take action to provide a Middle East “Safe Zone” for victims of ISIS brutality.
Liberty Relief International’s petition, “Middle East Christians Deserve a Safe Region to Call Their Home”, will be delivered to Congress on September 29th, before their October recess. We would like to secure 25,000 names before the delivery.
As Congressman Fortenberry said at the introduction of the resolution:
Click here to add your name to LRI’s Middle East Christians Deserve a Safe Region to Call Their Home petition. After signing, you be given an opportunity to support LRI’s other relief efforts.
God bless you for joining with us,
P.S. Click here to sign.
The petition states:
The House of Representatives and the U.S. State Department have declared ISIS atrocities against religious minorities to be “Genocide.”
We join with Rep. Jeff Fortenberry in determining, “One next step must be the re-securitization and revitalization of the Nineveh Plain, following the repatriation of those who had to flee…”
We support the passage of H.Con.Res.152, which declares: “Expressing the sense of Congress that the United States and the international community should support the Republic of Iraq and its people to recognize a province in the Nineveh Plain region, consistent with lawful expressions of self-determination by its indigenous peoples.”
Restoring this region means that displaced persons can return to their ancestral homeland historically referred to as “the cradle of Christianity.” We wholeheartedly support this initiative.
